A dog owners guide to the best walks in Knutsford Cheshire, from quieter, enriching parks, to those most popular among other dog owners and families.

Knutsford is a beautiful historic town with many great dog walking spots. From the popular Moor to lesser known, quiter spots, this blog is designed to help you find the perfect dog walk for you and your dog.
As an owner of a reactive dog, I understand the difficulty and importance of finding a quiet spot to walk your dog. You can use the ratings below to determine which park might suit you best.
I have rated each park out of five (🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕) based on criteria such as how popular the park is with other dog owners and whether it is wheelchair friendly. As Knutsford is primarily flat, walks are not challenging and can be enjoyed by walkers of all abilities. However, there is a variation of longer and shorter walks if you and your dog are active.
Located just a stones-throw from the high street, the Moor is a popular Knutsford attraction. With a pond featuring ducks and swans at one end, and a small woodland with wild flowers at the other, this park boasts natural beauty and plenty to explore.
In the centre of the park is open grassland where you can let your dog off lead for a run. Many people walk their dogs here, so there is a chance to meet other dog owners. The children's playpark is popular with families and there are many other dogs running around, so bear this in mind if your dog is reactive or anti-social. Look instead at my suggestions of Barncroft and Wallwood below.

Tatton park is an expansive estate with over 1,000 acres of parkland, and is one of my top choices of places to walk your dog in Knutsford. There are many fields and woodland walks to explore, with views over the lakes and a mansion. While many dog owners visit the park frequently, it is easy enough to find your very own spot of parkland away from other people and dogs.
Only Assistance Dogs are allowed inside the mansion, play area, old hall, shops and restaurants. However, pet dogs are permitted to explore Tatton's formal gardens (on a short lead).
Due to the amount of deer and livestock roaming the park, from 1st May to 31st July 2025 dogs must be kept on a lead. Please note Tatton Park is closed on Mondays.

Wallwood is located at the top of King Street, opposite the main entrance to Tatton Park. It is a small, triangular-shaped, woodland (just 0.7 acres). If you're looking to give your dog a good run, this is probably not the spot for you, but it could suit a dog in need of a slow sniffy walk. The park is home to a bug hotel and mature woodland, providing good sniffing opportunities for your dog. There are ample benches to sit and enjoy your surroundings, and it is never too busy, making it a peaceful place to relax.

Knutsford Heath is located on the edge of Knustford and features a mosaic of habitats, including woodland, scrub, heathland and grassland. If you walk through the woodland, you will also find an area of bare, sandy ground.
The central heathland area features wavy grass and is a perfect place to let your dog burn off some energy. Please ensure your dog has good recall (e.g. can recall the first time you call them) if you do choose to let them off. Alternatively, a long-line or extension lead can allow your dog to have more freedom, while providing a safety net.
Please note that during May Day, part of the park is sectioned off for rides and activities related to the fair, however there are still areas of woodland to explore.

Barncroft is located behind St. Cross Church Park and can be accessed via the moor, by entering through a short tunnel. It is often referred to as a "hidden gem" in Knutsford, and I can see why. It comprises of two fields, lined with trees and houses, and provides a much quieter spot to walk your dog when compared to the Moor and Heath park.
During the spring and summer, a section of the park is left to overgrow and transforms into a beautiful meadow. The meadow contains a variety of wildflowers and grasses and attracts wildlife including butterflies.
This is one of my favourite spots to walk reactive dogs as there are plenty of areas for them to sniff and explore, away from the business of town life.

Cross Town Community Orchard is fully enclosed, dog friendly and open to the public. It provides a safe place for your dog to explore and features collection of fruit trees cared for and shared by the local community.
The coffee van, Sister Barista, is often parked outside the orchard from Monday to Thursday, offering great coffee and traybakes. Why not take your dog for a stroll and grab a coffee, or even pick a pear from one of the fruit trees?

A small woodland area in Crosstown, located on the corner of Thorneyholme Drive and Woodside. The wood is over 100 years old, and was once part of the grounds of Knutsford College (a school for boys which closed permanently in the 1960’s).
The wood provides a quiet place for a short stroll. It certainly is not a long walk for your dog, but if you just so happen to be in the area, it might be worth popping by to give your dog a short sniffy break.
